The current philologist

Abstract

I was asked, several days ago, that, in this cultural event of the First Week of the Philologist "Virginia Sandoval de Fonseca", I made a very brief communication about the profession of the philologist today.
It is an honor for me and at the same time a capital and embarrassing commitment, to point (on request) something worthwhile, before so well-known colleagues, on a subject rarely dealt with, usually routinely, and almost always bypassing the necessary relationship between philologist and current affair.
Our purpose is therefore real and obligatory: to contribute with some unfinished reflections, so that, in your careful perception, you may be at the suggesting invitation of more reflection.
I understand as a professional what my sense of Hispanic speaker dictates to me in the current use of the term: the person dedicated to the exercise or activity of a certain field of knowledge, for the purpose of society, and as a means of his personal development and own material subsistence, with the proper and appropriate preparation, according to the institutional requirements in force in the society to which such a person is to integrate.
