"The Top" of college education

Abstract

During 1967, as this speaker Minister of Education of the Government of Mr. José Joaquín Trejos, he took the initiative to create the Higher Normal School. The matter sparked a long controversy that ended when the School was created by Executive Decree in January 1968. The older opponents were professors and students mainly in education at the University of Costa Rica. Later the Legislative Assembly issued a law creating the School and the following government took it as a building point of the current National University, therefore the peculiarity of that Higher Normal School that was so difficult to create died.


In conversation with a colleague at the University of Costa Rica, given the controversial days mentioned above, he told me that in his opinion all higher education should be university, to which I replied that my view was that all university education should be higher. Some believed that, just by passing the railway of Montes de Oca, the courses were already university students and on that large questions were opened...


That is why the subject of this presentation may be appropriate. Because the higher adjective often accompanies education and the things that are known and suffered, it may be appropriate to discuss the issue.
