About Science and Technology

Abstract

This August is the 27th birthday of this Teaching House. On each anniversary the University holds an Academic Assembly dedicated to a topic whose analysis helps to understand an important aspect of the concerns of the world and the University.

For this XIX Assembly, the point of consideration chosen is of permanent topicality – so to speak – of global importance and of immense breadth. It is related to the situation of Science and Technology in some of its many aspects. Because the theme can be focused on its development over the centuries, by continents, in rich nations and in poor nations, on their achievements that so much, both facilitate our lives, in their unwanted aftermath, in the attitude of peoples towards the teaching of Science and Technology, in the great challenges that their development presents to peoples and governments and the expected role of education in this regard , their influence on democracy, see how for many people it represents an overwhelming problem... The obvious thing is that its breadth surrounds us everywhere.

The Organizing Commission of this event has been fortunate to have counted, as exhibitors in this event, with the acceptance of people who are linked in various outstanding ways to this world of Science and Technology. I am very pleased to thank Dr. Svein Sjoberg, Dr Guy de Teramond, Dr. Pedro León Azofeifa and Dr. Alejandro Cruz for their presence and participation in this Assembly. The representatives of the university cloister present express our admiration for the work they have done and do and our respect because they have been able to uncover for their knowledge, righteousness and commitment, those who have put at the service of others.
