Church social doctrine and liberalism: antagonism or misunderstanding?

Abstract

Thanks to the kindness of the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the Universidad Francisco Marroquín, which I am very grateful for, I was able to know the text of the presentation that Professor Gabriel Zanotti presented at the forum "Christianity and Liberalism" that the Faculty organized last August, as well as the content of the response to the presentation of Professor Zanotti, due to Father Mario Molina.

The director of Laissez-Faire has asked me for a comment to publish in the Magazine, along with the two works cited. I'd be happy to accept the invitation.

I know the work of Professor Zanotti, an economist of deep Tomist background, whom I have had the pleasure of listening to on several occasions. His presentation, with whose content I fully agree with, is what could be expected of a liberal inscribed in the Christian iusnaturalist current to which we feel linked those who think that there is no antagonism, but compatibility, and even complementarity, between the Doctrine of the Catholic Church and liberalism, including economic ones, sometimes designated with the ever conflicting name of capitalism.
