Heart Tumors an underdiagnosed pathology
Main Article Content
Abstract
Cardiac tumors (CT) can be of 2 types: Primary or Secondary, and be derived from any of the layers of the heart. Primary tumors of the heart are rare 30 times less frequent than metastases to the heart, and of these, 75 to 90% are benign. The most common primary tumors include: In childhood, rhabdomyomas and fibromas; and the Myxomas in adulthood, followed by teratomas, hemangiomas, tumors derived from Purkinje cells observed usually in adolescence and adulthood. Sarcomas are the most common primary malignant tumors. Secondary tumors are the most common occurrence and are generally mostly malignant, they tend to affect the myocardium and epicardium, the most common are neuroblastomas and lymphomas or metastases from other malignancies or continuity of these. Clinical manifestations regardless of the etiology, are usually nonspecific, related to the location of it and the effect of underlying cardiac structures. The most frequent symptoms are given by valvular obstructions and / or dysrhythmias, pre arousal disorders mainly given by the appearance of accessory pathways parallel to the tumor, more related to tumors originating Purkinje fibers.
