Abstract

In order to analyze the social and ethical aspects of the economy, responding to an invitation from the Vatican Council for Justice and Peace, as part of the tasks prior to the preparation of Hundredths Annus, on November 5, 1990 a group of of illustrious strangers to humanity, but "heavyweights" to the guild of economists, composed of Kenneth J. Arrow, Anthony B. Atkinson, Partha Dasgupta, Jacques H. Dreze, Peter J. Hammond, Hendrik S. Houthakker, Robert E. Lucas jr., Edmond Malinvaud, Jeffrey D. Sachs, Amartya Sen, Horst Siebert and Hirofumi Uzawa (the meeting included a lunch with the Supreme Pontiff).
