In Costa Rica, the issue of working conditions – understood as the set of factors or variables that define the realization of a complete task, the environment in which it is performed and that determines the health of working people – is not new. There is a whole legal framework that begins with the creation of Law No. 6727, Law on Occupational Risks. In addition to this law, a number of specific and regulatory rules were created that regulate work activities and maintain the claim rate in a range of about 8.62% (claims/occupied insured population) (INS, 2007).
