Abstract

Melico Salazar’s life and work is related in the present article. This Costa Rican singer performed sheet music written by great international composers: chamber music, sacred music, operettas, zarzuela and opera. He sang brilliantly in the dramatic tenor tessitura in the most important theaters around the world. He sang a total of thirty operas in different languages. Besides being an extraordinary interpreter, during his heyday, he lived Bohemian life. His important legacy as a singer and as a professional actor became a milestone in Costa Rican, Latin American, and the Worldwide Bel Canto history.
