La history of Costa Rica according to its public civic sculptural monumentality abroad

Abstract

In the development of the modern national state, it was sought by different means the shaping of feelings and national and local identities. The sculptural monumentality is not only one of the most used, but which is considered to be prototypical in this creation of identities. However, the creation of a speech or speeches about the message of these monuments faces the problem of reading a multimodal text and, above all, the difficulty of measuring the relative impact of each monument in the public. This paper tries to make an approach to reading about the discursivity of homeland history, found in Costa Rica external sculptural monuments in public places, trying to overcome the problems identified. For this end, using a list of works published in 2015, the qualitative characteristics of the monuments will be used to analyze the possible discourse of national history in sculptures, using a national history photo print book as an operative metaphor. 


Thus, at the end, it can be denoted that specific values aare exalted for each historical period of the country in this "history book" selectively using different discursive methodologies depending on the historical period concerned.
