Abstract

Aristotle left the Platonic Academy when Plato had already died. It was, apparently, because of differences with his nephew that the philosopher decided to open his own temple of wisdom on a hill opposite the teacher's school. As it is a place close to the temple of Apollo Likaios, the Aristotelian school, as will be remembered, was given the name Lyceum.
