Abstract

In this paper, I expound the global conception of the nature and origins of modern science presented by Edwin Burtt and Alexandre Koyré. I hold, then, that the studies of these historians show a community of perspectives. The common topics I emphasize are the rejection of the positivist history of science, the study of science in its historical singularity and in its relation to the other spheres of culture, the acknowledgment of the influence that the revival of Platonism had on the formation of modern science and the characterization of the emergence of modern science as a revolution in thought.
