GMO foods: uncertainties and evidence-based risks

Abstract
This article questions several arguments used by genetic engineering promoters with respect to GMO foods. Presented are the philosophies under which the production of transgenic foods is defended or criticized: reductionist and critical or holistic, as well as aspects related to the construction of GMO foods, pointing out their relationship to health and some contradictions that are often cited by transgenic food advocates. Some views expressed by the World Health Organization (WHO) on this issue are also highlighted, reaffirming the current uncertainty in this area. In addition, a number of questions are raised around this topic, concluding that, to date, there is no clear evidence to assert that GMO foods are safe and safe for health.
Finally, several of the actions taken in the country and other regions of the world aimed at the application of the Precautionary Principle and the defence of consumer rights are mentioned.
