Abstract

Igor Stravinski was born in Oraniem¬baum, Russia, on June 17, 1882. His father, Feodor, was a famous bass-baritone singer from the Imperial Theater in Saint Petersburg. As a boy, Stravinski lived in a refined artistic environment. He started taking piano and harmony classes at age nine. At around eighteen, he undertook the study of counterpoint on his own, which, in his own words, amused and fascinated him.
