Abstract

Nowadays, the teaching function in higher education has become a very important task. Training students who will become future professionals to help strengthen the Costa Rican economy is a great responsibility. However, it is important to raise certain questions. Do university professors have an attitude for teaching?
Is being a teacher a life choice or is it just a job like any other? Is teaching something that comes with it or is it an opportunity that can be developed during working and professional life?

This article tries to answer these questions from a global perspective and, in turn, provide the point of view from the author, where it is complemented with different writers to prove the importance of teaching in the lives of their students and determine if there is a direct influence on the student community. In addition to touching issues such as alienation, and if this condition can also affect teachers.

An adequate use of not only didactic and schematized topics, but also of valuable topics such as ethics and value judgments, are tools that higher education teachers can use to improve their students› learning and create vocational discernment in them. The question is, do all teachers have the spirit of a teacher leader?
