Abstract

In 2006, the four hundredth anniversary of the birth of the illustrious Leyden-born artist, on July 15, 1606, Harmenszoon van Rjin Rembrandt, was commemorated. His name translated into Spanish is Rembrandt of the Rhine, son of Harmen. 


Painter, cartoonist and engraver, who aesthetic valuation places as supreme Dutch baroque artist and the most important master of the Netherlands, also one of the greatest painters in the history of Western art.


His popularity was largely due to his engravings; he was the son of a great miller and his mother, daughter of a baker. He was 14 years old when he began his studies of humanities, which he soon left to pursue his artistic vocation, enrolling in the academy of his hometown.
