The "college idea" today

Abstract

Along with the development of Western civilization and before the existence of the University institution as such, in ancient Greece and Rome what would become the basis for formal education; there they converged knowledge and research with teachers and students; It was the time of great scholars, of great schools, of great sages such as Aristotle and Plato who were able to forge an excellent wealth of knowledge with influence to this day.


With a long and complex history, the Universities offer diverse faces to the observer depending on the times and countries where they emerged; the appearance of the bourgeoisie accompanies his birth; in the late Middle Ages they were organized through associations and in this associative principle they will find the key to their strength, students and teachers of monastic, diocesan, palatine schools are associated in autonomous corporations giving rise to the birth of this institution so important for the development of humanity.
