Abstract

The Carlos Luis Valverde Vega Hospital in San Ramón is a hospital of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund, classified as peripheral 3, an organization that mobilizes the capacity and effort of professional, semi-professional and non-professional personnel to provide their services. There is a need for the Internal Medicine
service to have its own general physician on the floor in order to cover all the needs of this and there is no study to justify the lack of a general practitioner in this room; For this reason it is decided to measure the costs of the payment of extra hours generated by said service for medical transfers, which are made by the general
physician of the emergency service and the cost of maintaining a general physician permanently in the room responsible for such transfers; and thus demonstrate which of the two options results with the greatest cost-effective benefit.
