Abstract

The SOLAS Convention adopts minimum rules for the construction, equipment and operation of ships and to improve the safety of said maritime transport, machinery and electrical installations; the prevention, detection and extinction of fires; rescue devices; radiotelegraphy and radiotelephony; the safety of navigation; grain transportation; the transport of dangerous goods and nuclear ships. In addition, it adopts measures for the protection and safety of ships and port facilities. It was born in the light of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which is the United Nations body specialized in maritime affairs.
