Abstract

What has traditionally been understood as the artistic avant-garde is a group of individuals who come together and propose a series of changes that imply a "break" with what had been known as "traditional values." The artistic avant-gardes of the 20th century imply that rupture at different levels. For example, cubism brought with it a break in forms, thereby establishing a style that meant the fragmentation of reality. The artistic avant-garde thus implies an opposition to the old or traditional, affirming what we usually call "Modernity".
