Abstract

The twentieth century is one of ruthless persecution of Christianity, the worst in Germany (during the Kulturkampf of Bismarck and in the National Socialist era), in Mexico and in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, but there were also minors in almost all Western countries, especially in France and Italy, as well as in some African and Asian countries.
The Kulturkampf (Fight for Culture) in the Germanic Empire
Prince Otto von Bismarck (1815–1898), Chancellor of Prussia (in 1862), founder of the German Empire (1871) and unifying Germany, feared that the Catholic Church would impede German unity, and therefore persecuted it, to diminish its influence in the Germanic Empire. This persecution is known as the Kulturkampf.
