Abstract

Central America is one of the most biologically diverse geographical areas on the planet, a bridge between the southern and northern parts of the Americas. Its rich diversity, reflected in high rates of plant and animal species, its numerous habitats and its diverse landscapes, are not out of danger. On the contrary, over the past 20 years environmental and urban conditions have been seriously threatened by development models that have not considered the environmental variable. One of the reasons, by the way, not the most important, is the illegal wildlife trade. It is not by chance that Central America has been seen as an ex-carrier or wildlife re-exporter area with relevant global dimensions. The fact that this may not be the main problem that threatens species of flora and fauna, does not im-plica that ignore their scopes and above all their chances of growth.
