Abstract

Filmmaker Spielberg's well-known film Schindler's List has revived the undisclosed theme of the humanitarian eagerness of so many people who contributed to preventing the Nazi Holocaust against Jews from having greater proportions.
One of these microhistory has to do with Costa Rica; this short article is intended to recall what happened. The livelihood material is contained in documents guarded in the Foreign Relations section, in the National Register of our country. Some forgotten roles of cold diplomatic-legalist cut have allowed to reconstruct dramatic vicissitudes and a history of true humanity.
In late 1938, impending and menacing winds of war were blowing over Europe; Hitler had already invaded Austria. At the same time, germany's racist wave began to peak: persecuted Jews sought anywhere in the world where they could find the desired tranquility. There were those who solidified and extended a friendly hand.
