Abstract
Throughout its history Christianity has not only constituted a set of beliefs, a system of ecclesiastical organization or beautiful and impressive ritual cults; has always represented great moral strength and has always worked for human improvement. The old "classic" religions exerted relative moral influence on their faithful. The individual, reverent to his gods, could be a monster of wickedness with his fellowmen. Christianity teaches to love God, but also to others. This is to the point that true love of God is measured by the love of others.
The moral effects of Christianity are written with indelible characters in the history of Western civilization. The ways were softened and refined by the importance given to virtues such as modesty and tenderness. He is still owed more vital contributions to civilization for his social teachings, in his efforts to achieve fraternity among men and to relieve the oppressed. The strength with which Christianity enhances the value and dignity of the person and his moral responsibility has been a very important factor in the development of democratic ideals.
