Abstract

Omar Dengo was born in San José( Costa Rica), on March 9, 1888, in a historical environment preceded by liberal and positivist ideas in the field of culture and education, He died in the city of Heredia on November 18, 1928.
When Omar Dengo entered the primary school, the educational movement initiated by Don Mauro Fernández began to consolidate with its reform (Fundamental Law on Public Instruction of 1888, General Law on Common Education and Normal Instruction Regulations), and during those years the "New School" of Don Miguel Obregón already established a renewal that initiated the break with the "old school" and represented one of the best pedagogical conquests.
Omar Dengo continued his secondary studies at the Lyceum of Costa Rica (1901). "Those who knew him in the classrooms of the Lyceum say that he was intelligent, of clear thought, of timely occurrences and that, above all, he excelled at gallantry and elegance in dress, for his sympathy and sense of friendship."
After finishing his studies in middle school he befriends professors Roberto Brenes Mesen and Joaquín García Monge, from whom he will receive guidance in his cultural and spiritual structure, contribution and friendship that lasted a lifetime.
In 1908 he obtained his bachelor's degree in Science and Letters; their desire to continue their natural science studies in France are thwarted. It begins a period of criticism and political ideals oriented towards social justice. In 1908 he enrolled in the Law School, where he graduated in 1911, but, in this period, his most important activity will be in the press and in politics. On November 26, 1908, the first issue of the newspaper "Sanction" came out as a result of the political club of the same name that Omar Dengo founded with his group of friends and workers.
He becomes a defender of the humble and needs-two in search of his well-being; give the worker what is right not for charity but as a duty of the state. It manifests anti-imperialist ideas. Omar Dengo proclaims in "Sanction" that "our work will be to combat harm and defend ideals".
